Seeking a rural respite in beautiful places? Then must not miss the Tambun village where will get your rustic groove going! After the two-month community project “Beautiful Tambun” that launched by village headman (under the cooperation of village headman with the residents to beautify the village), the 36 shophouses along the main street are painted with rainbow colors and murals, ideal for strolling and photo-walking! There are coffee shops, grocery stores, snack bars, DIY shops… all are worth to explore. A walk down to the street, you’ll see a Na-tuk-gong wishing tree for visitors to toss wishes; all you need to do is just buy the red ribbons (RM2 each) with written wishes on top and get throwing, you wishes (if you’re lucky!) will stay in the wishing tree and come true with good fortune! Never forget to visit the Tian Gong temple and wishing well too!

2) Bukit Tambun Herbal Sauna & Massage for relaxation

3) Visit Batu Kawan (IKEA + Design Village + Batu Kawan Central Park)
Just a 10 mins drive from Bukit Tambun, Batu Kawan is a place where being developed as the bustling metropolis in recent years. It is set to blossom with new housing, malls, schools, hospitals, and yes, a new IKEA. The first IKEA store in Penang was finally opened in March this year! The massive crowds were flocking to its famous meatballs, smooth vanilla ice cream and the Instagrammable spot in IKEA that become trendy nowadays. 1) Tambun KoChaBi
Tambun KoChaBi is a famed third generation family business that being run for more than 30 years. Curry economic rice and Hainan Chicken rice is amongst the most popular dishes in this kopitiam! The curry economic rice usually sold out around 7am after opening at 5am; it’s the favourite breakfast for fishing communities as many of the local fishermen will come here to “dabao”(pack and take-away) the economic curry rice before they set off to the sea in the morning. Their signature curry is mainly cooked with fresh milk instead of coconut milk, hence it’s taste so delicious and creamy, not greasy at all! The kopitiam also serves with variety types of roasted meats such as: roasted chicken、roasted duck、roasted pork、steamed chicken and barbecued pork. The combo of tender meat + fragrant & flavourful rice, accompanied by their homemade sauce & garlic-chilli dips is just perfect!

2) Tambun Jawa Mee & Hokkien Mee
It’s a definitely the place to go for delicious and pocket-friendly lunch! This motor food truck is situated along with a fruit stall at Patou during noon time. It’s one of the hottest lunch spot for locals thus don’t expect empty table at peak lunch hour! The Jawa Mee and Hokkien Mee are the must-try signatures that you shouldn’t miss; aside from the rich full favoured soup base, the smooth & silky texture of the noodles laced with umami-filled will make you irresistible to its taste! You can choose to add-on ingredients like prawns & octopus which are freshest catch available for that day.

Hidden inside a residential area of Taman Merak Jaya, there are 2 humble stalls (inside Beh Kopitiam and Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Kueh Teow Ee) selling homemade Chai Kuih / steamed vegetable dumpling (a Teochew culinary treasure). The crystal clear soft chewy skin filled with yam bean (sengkuang) and chives (kuchai) are steamed on the spot; thinner skin with more filling, it just makes the most satisfying light bite ever! Both kopitiams also sell a variety of local dishes, perfect venue to have your breakfast here too!
