The St. Anne’s Church is undoubtedly one of the most iconic tourist attractions in Bukit Mertajam. The church, named after Saint Anne – the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, was built in 1888; It is the biggest and earliest Catholic chapel in Penang. The white church with beautiful stained glass windows standing against fluffy cloud on blue sky is just simply stunning! The 9-days celebrations held here in July every year for St. Anne’s Feast (July 26) tend to draw 40,000 to 60,000 local & foreign devotees and tourists, in which being regarded as one of the 20 biggest Catholic pilgrimages in the world1 You’ll never want to miss the astounding scene of candlelight procession – where all the flickering lights seen are candles held by pilgrims.

How can you miss the famous yam rice if you come to BM! Sentosa Corner is one of the typical kopitiam where you’ll be able to get almost all the signature local foods – while the yam rice here is amongst the best-known; The rice dish stuffed with yam cubes and green onion combine with savoury soup filled with pork meats and balls – what a mouth-watering food! That’s the reason behind why many people purposely come here for it! The Mee Jawa and Pasembur are not to be missed too; the soup base that made with sweet potatoes has been cooked for several hours, mix with rich ingredients like yellow noodle, crispy fritters, fried ground peanuts and half-boiled egg – a taste you can never forget. 5th Stop: Frog Hill

This is indeed the best spot in BM for your inner photoholic! The Frog Hill (also known as Bukit Katak / Guar Petai) is said to resemble China’s Jiuzhaigou due to the stunning turquoise lakes surrounded by red cliffs. It’s originated from past excavation works and used to be a mining site; but now the paradise born of a quarry closure! Go higher for a better view and you’ll be immersed with its surreal fairytale-like appearance. Avoid rainy day because the road to Frog Hill will become very muddy and your car may get stuck in.

6th Stop: Icon city
