Georgetown Wines was a stable with 500 years of history, after renovation, they remained the original design of stable and include new elements at the same time, which allows the people to enjoy the wines and dishes in the most beautiful way.
There are 4 stables in Penang and Georgetown Wines that located at Leith Street is one of them. For Georgetown Wines, they have spaces at ground floor for carriage and the groom lived on the second floor. After the 3 restaurant owners take over, they cooperated together and transform the spaces into an event hall, where the customers can hold a birthday party or make preparation for propose. Besides, they have sofa lounge on the second floor, which is suitable for a group of friends to chill together and enjoy the moment. Georgetown Wines has been operated for 5 years.
The 3 restaurant owners are best friends, they have their own career, which is a lawyer, engineer and architect. Although they are busy with their works, they still manage to have fun in their life. One day, 3 of them have a vacation and while they are having a conversation, they mentioned that they wish to have a place for gathering after they retired. Then, they decided to open Georgetown Wines.
Georgetown Wines’ manager Arlene Lim said, 3 of them love their jobs but also they have put a lot of effort in the restaurant. For example, one of the owners love cooking and hence, she will share delicious dishes she have tried during vacation with the chef and they will do some research to create new menu. Another owner love wines and he is in charge of purchasing good wines for the restaurant while another owner did the interior design of the restaurant.
Although the 3 bosses could not stay at Penang frequently, but they always put an eye on the development of the restaurant and they insisted to create high quality restaurant. They strictly require fresh ingredients and provide wines that could not be found at any supermarket. The customer can do their own decoration if there is any celebration but they are not allowed to nail anything on wall.
If you are a wine lover, Georgetown Wines is definitely your best choice because they have a variety of wines, including France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and Italy. The waiter will bring you to visit the wine cellar and choose the wine on the spot or they will give suggestions based on customer’s favourite. Wines and dishes are the best combination, thus, the chef of Georgetown Wines put effort on the menu, hoping to provide satisfying dishes for the customers. As they insisted to use fresh ingredients, they will purchase the ingredients every 2 to 3 days.
Usually they will change the menu after half a year or one year, so that the customers have the opportunity to try new and special dishes. However, they will remain the popular dishes as well. If the customer wishes to try the dish that is not available on the menu anymore, the chef will prepare it if they have enough ingredients. Also, they will customize the menu according to the customer’s request. From this, you can see the sincerity of Georgetown Wines in serving their customers.

According to Arlene Lim, each restaurant has their unique style and the presentation of environment and dishes are different, so it is difficult to do comparison. Most important is they have to provide warm and sincere services and quality dishes to the customers.
